John Ambler

John Ambler is known for his ability to protect his client’s interests, connect key messages to target audiences, and calmly and strategically navigate even the most extreme corporate image and public affairs crisis.

His extensive experience gained within Fortune 500 enterprises and leading PR firms spans the full spectrum of corporate communications across B2B and B2C industries. Throughout his career, John has become known for launching and executing strategies that build brand, protect corporate reputation, improve employee relations, and overcome tremendous public-facing challenges.

John led major advances in communication for energy giants, Texaco, Enron and Phillips 66. These experiences prepared him to weather the most brutal of PR storms with crises such as oil spills, hostile takeovers, and two of the largest bankruptcies in U.S. history. Recognized for his ethical standards and expertise, Enron’s bankruptcy creditors relied upon him to rebrand its assets to recover more of their losses following the company’s collapse. He delivered—restoring confidence in one of the group’s subsidiaries, which ultimately led to a sale price $1B higher than initial valuations.

John positively impacted the transportation industry, while leading the way through tremendous change. As Vice President of Corporate Relations of BNSF Railway, John was entrusted to orchestrate the announcement and support of the $44B acquisition by Berkshire Hathaway. The overwhelmingly positive reception by investors, government, employees, and the financial community was due in large part to the success of the critical communications campaigns John created and launched. He went on to lead the creation and advancement of groundbreaking digital, employee and advocacy programs for this transportation leader.

John expanded his industry exposure further as Chief Communications & Public Affairs Officer of Houston’s largest health provider, Memorial Hermann Health Systems. He led the organization to rank first among its competitors in terms of share of voice. As Senior Vice President & Partner with PR powerhouse Fleishman Hillard, he proved his ability to apply his skill set to a wide range of industries and challenges.

John holds a BA from Dartmouth College in Government. With his superior communications experience, broad industry exposure, combined with a strong strategic mindset, John is in his element helping organizations advance their priorities, particularly organizations facing extreme public affairs or public perception challenges.
